South Leeds community have their say on health issues

Patients across South and East Leeds will come together tomorrow (Friday 23 January 2015) at an extraordinary public meeting to have their say on how NHS services are funded and delivered.

nhsRepresentatives from GP patient groups will meet at the Thackray Medical Museum, Beckett Street at 10:30am.

NHS Leeds South and East Clinical Commissioning Group, the health body responsible for planning and funding local healthcare services, is calling on the community to work with them to identify and prioritise new local services. Options on the table include;

  • the roll out of nurse-led services for children and young people who suffer from asthma
  • programmes to increase uptake of bowel, lung and breast cancer
  • a local anti-smoking campaign
  • Non-medical support that may help people who are experiencing social, emotional and mental health needs

Patients, carers and service users will also be discussing the development of existing NHS services including children and maternity services, cancer treatments, urgent care and elective hospital services.

Matthew Ward, Chief Operating Officer at NHS Leeds South and East CCG said:

“NHS Leeds South and East CCG is committed to putting patients, carers and the wider public at the heart of everything that it does.

“Involving our local communities in how we plan and deliver healthcare is important to us and I am delighted that so many individuals across the area have responded to our call to action.”

Those who cannot attend the meeting are invited to take part in a survey available at www.leedssouthandeastccg.nhs.uk/involved. Paper copies can be provided by emailing leedssouthandeastccg@nhs.net or call (0113) 843 1600.

The public consultation closes on 17 February.
