Work starts on new homes in Holbeck and Beeston

Work is now well underway on the major housing regeneration scheme in Holbeck and Beeston Hill. Councillor David Congreve took a trip to the top of Meynell Heights this week to survey progress.

Meynell Heights will get a full makeover during the next year. The building will be clad in insulating render to keep the flats warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Inside, new boilers, kitchens and bathrooms will be fitted. This video shows the panoramic view of South Leeds from the roof of Meynell Heights:

On Brown Lane East the site is being prepared for Unity Housing Association to build forty new homes.

Meanwhile demolition of maisonette blocks has started on Beeston Road. All demolition works to properties on Coupland Place, Malvern Road and Coupland Road will be completed before the Christmas break for safety reasons. Work to build new homes on the sites and Folly Lane will start next year with completion due in autumn 2014.

The scheme will see 275 new Council homes built and 383 homes refurbished. The scheme is funded through the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and is being delivered by a consortium called sc4L with main contractor Keepmoat. Keepmoat are also the contractor for the Unity housing association scheme which is funded through the Homes and Communities Agency.
